She thinks that Shay had to pull strings to get her to become a Special and that she’s barely special enough to be a part of the team and she’s working hard to be worthy of her new position of power, which is so rough to read knowing everything she’s done. She’s part of a branch of government officials called Special Circumstances, she’s a Cutter and she works under her best friend Shay. In this case Tally Youngblood is no longer a Pretty, now she’s a Special, only an extra special Special. In the beginning of every book so far she’s unaware of the governments plots, totally trusting in it and different then she ever had been before. Once again Tally Youngblood has forgotten things, and once again Tally Youngblood is different. Specials starts off with a similar vibe to how Pretties began.

Strength and reflexes were only part of it-Shay simply knew that she was special, and so she was. It was how you carried yourself, how you saw yourself.

And in 2018 a continuation was announced and I’m not sure how I feel about that, but I’ll talk about that when I review the fourth book. So if you want something fun to read over a week or so, I'd recommend this one for all ages.Specials was originally the final book in the Uglies series but a year later another book came out. The fourth book has a new protagonist and is more standalone. The three books follow the same girl but she finds herself on different sides every book so you get multiple perspectives on the world she lives in. It's not too heavy on the SciFi, so if you don't like those kinds of book, this series shouldn't scare you off. The setting is in the future where we follow our 16 year old female protagonist through conspiracies and some surprising twists. So for new/young readers who might not have run into these concepts often, this might be especially interesting to read. They introduce concepts of 'What is free will?', 'What is our place in the world?', the value of friendship versus conforming to society and how interpersonal relationships change and develop. The books are around 300 pages each and pretty light reading. I've recently reread these four books and while I'm not the targeted audience for this Young Adult series, I really enjoy them.
